Dickens Blanche Payne Dickens, 89, 341 Jenkins Hollow Road, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 17, 2006, at Hermitage Health Care Center. Mrs. Dickens was a native of Johnson County and a daughter of the late George W. and Nancy Anderson Payne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Dickens, November 6, 1996, and by four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Dickens had lived most of her life in Carter County and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Meadowview Baptist Church, but attended Valley Forge Church of God. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Irene B. Williams, Gray, and Virginia Maude and Harold Grindstaff, Elizabethton, and three granddaughters, Angie Riley, Tammy and husband Dr. Shawn Pridemore and Summer Johnson. Four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Dickens will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Bawgus officiating. Music will be provided by Richard and Teresa Bawgus. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, will be Randy Sizemore, Ronnie Payne, Rodney Payne, Randy Payne, Danny Ray Elliott, Shane Laws and Roy Lee Honeycutt. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Maude and Harold Grindstaff, 355 Jenkins Hollow Road, Elizabethton. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the nursing staff of Hermitage Health Care Center and to Dr. Robert Walter and Dr. Daniel Paul.
