Harper Howard Lacie Harper, 74, 1117 East Schumacher, Burton, Mich., died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc, Mich., following an extended illness. A native of Shady Valley Community in Johnson County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Jerry Miller and Elva Crosswhite Harper Miller. Mr. Harper retired from General Motors and was a member of the local Auto Workers Union. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harper was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Harper and Robert Harper. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Gae Harper, Boone, N.C., and Elva M. Wright, Granite Falls, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Viola Browning, Piney Flats; a sister, Edna Gae Proffitt, Elizabethton; a brother, Clyde Harper, Elizabethton; and six grandchildren, identical twins John Earl and Steven Lee Campbell Jr., both of Piney Flats, Christina Maria Campbell, Johnson City, Andrew Joseph Lewis and Heather Ann Wright, both of Granite Falls, N.C., and Tammy Jean Sluder, Piney Flats. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Harper will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Interment will follow in the Crosswhite Cemetery, Shady Valley Community. Active pallbearers will be John Campbell, Steven Campbell, Andrew Lewis, Walter Boles, Chris Proffitt, Nathan Haerr, Phillip Haerr and Johnny Profitt. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Hearts of Love, 240 Meadow Hill Drive, Apt. 403, Boone, NC 28607-3966.
