Hicks Ellen P. Dunn Lowe Hicks, 78, 1130 Poga Road, Butler, died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at her residence following a brief battle with cancer. Mrs. Hicks was a native of Johnson County and a daughter of the late Clint and Roxie Turnmire Dunn. Mrs. Hicks was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, Poga, and was a homemaker. Ellen was a special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved everyone she met. She loved to travel and visit with friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Lowe, her second husband, Adren Hicks, an infant son, Billy Ray Lowe, two infant daughters, Linda and Brenda Lowe, two sisters, Eva Sue Dunn and Winnie Dunn, and two brothers, Charlie and Joe Dunn. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose Ann and John Deakins, Watauga, Judy Rogers, Elizabethton, Lois and Daryl Greer, Elizabethton, and Teresa Hatcher, Bluff City; five sons and two daughters-in- law, Sammy Dunn, Piney Flats, Douglas Lowe, Sulphur Springs, Kenneth Wayne Lowe, of the home, David and Kathy Lowe, Elizabethton, and Ronnie and Debbie Lowe, Poga; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Marshall Eugene Dunn, of Ohio; a special cousin, Vivian Salts, Telford; very special friends, Cathy Richardson, Carl and Betty Cable, Belle Greer, Ranie Trivette and Arula; and cousins, Earnest and Goldie Hicks and Jackie and Howell Wiseman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Hicks will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Dean Estep, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Carl Cable, Eddie Arrowood and Earnest and Goldie Hicks. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the homeplace or at the homes of her children at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, in the Phillippi Cemetery, Mountain City. Those attending will meet at the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Salts and Carl Cable. A special thank you is extended to Mrs. Hicks' caregiver, Pam Bunting of Adventa Hospice.
