Honeycutt Albert Doyle "Bud" Honeycutt, eldest son of the late Tine and Fern Slemp Honeycutt, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. He was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Butler. "Bud" was educated in the public school of Butler, attended the Watauga Academy in Old Butler as a freshman. He graduated from Hampton High School where he was awarded a plaque for best all-around athlete upon graduation. He also attended East Tennessee State University. In 1949 he joined the United States Navy and served in Japan for four years. He was employeed by the F.B.I. as a Communication Officer in Washington D.C. and Knoxville, for 10 years. He was also employeed by the North East Correctional Center in Mountain City for 11 years. He enjoyed all kinds of sports. He loved his family and friends. He was a member of Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #566, Scottish Rite and was a Shriner. He was a faithful member of the Butler Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Etta Joan Pierce Honeycutt and by two brothers, Charles Edwin Honeycutt and Richard Burl Honeycutt. Survivors include his son, Bruce Alan Honeycutt, Johnson City; a sister, Edna Honeycutt Stalcup, Butler; two nieces, Melanie Dawn Honeycutt Adkins, Bristol, Va., and Angela Gail Rasnake, Piney Flats; two great-nieces, Madison Renee Rasnake and Alexa Grace Rasnake of Piney Flats; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Linda Honeycutt, Piney Flats; and a very special friend, Dale Freeman. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Butler Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Garland and the Rev. Alan Koch officiating. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Ronnie Perkins. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Music will be provided by Betty Cunningham, organist; Nioka Markland, pianis; and Anna Dugger, soloist. Active Pallbearers will be David Markland, James Johnson, Vaughn Potter, Bill Kelly, Michael Lowe, and Greg Slemp. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday in the Butler Baptist Church.
