JOHNSON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Helen Lenore Crowe Hawkins, 28 Apr 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Helen Lenore Crowe Hawkins, 81, North Church Street, Mountain City, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center, Boone, N.C., following a brief illness. Mrs. Hawkins was a native of Johnson County, born January 24, 1924 to the late Andrew Jackson and Myrtle Luttrell Crowe. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William Washington Hawkins Jr., who passed away in l986; two sisters, Gladys Crowe Jenkins and Virginia Dare Crowe Slemp; and three brothers, Lee Ray Crowe, Marcus Clay Crowe and Samuel Woodrow Crowe. Helen had attended the Elizabethton Business College and was a retired secretary, having worked with the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services for 37 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Wesleyan Guild. Survivors include one son, William Bliss and wife Carolyn Hawkins, Mountain City; two brothers, Jackson Howell Crowe, Crystal Springs, Fla., and Daniel Boone Crowe, Palatka, Fla.; one granddaughter, Laura Susan Hawkins, Johnson City; two grandsons, Matthew Bliss and wife Krystal Hawkins, Jonesborough, and Aaron Gibson and wife Jessica Hawkins, Raleigh, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Blaine Madison Bliss Boles, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Rye officiating. Music was under the direction of the First United Methodist Church. Graveside services and interment followed in the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dan Wilson, Matthew Bliss Hawkins, Aaron Gibson Hawkins, James Crowe, Carl C. Jenkins and Thomas E. Fortune. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John L. Whitlock and Dan Hammons. The family received friends at the church from 1 until 2 p. m. Saturday, prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the family residence of her son, William Bliss and Carolyn Hawkins, 320 William Hawkins Lane, Mountain City, at anytime.
