Tucker Miss Florence E. Tucker, 81, of Asbury Center, 400 North Boone Street, Johnson City, Tenn., and formerly of Butler, Tenn., passed away Monday, July 16, 2007, at Asbury Center following an extended illness. A native of Old Butler, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Matilda Burton Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Ellis, Elbert, Warren and Troy Tucker, and a sister, Rhoda T. Shuey. Florence was a graduate of the Watauga Academy and East Tennessee State University. She retired as a State of Tennessee employee, having served as County Director of the Department of Human Services in Johnson County. She was of the Baptist faith and was a former active member of the Butler OES #218 where she served as a Worthy Matron. Florence belonged to numerous clubs and committees which promoted the growth and development of Johnson County. She helped start 911 in Johnson County and did a cancer study in Kentucky. She was a lover of competitive sports and followed the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Team from elementary school days. Survivors include a sister, Louise Tucker Pleasant of Butler; three nieces, Trula Haley of Butler, Linda Jewett of Doylestown, Ohio, and Jenny Farthing of Canada; and nephews, Dick and Mike Pleasant of Butler, and special nephew, Sidney Smithdeal of Butler. A Celebration of Life service for Miss Tucker will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July, 22, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Hughes and Ms. Mona Sweeney officiating. Music will be under the direction of Chris and Tona Hughes. Inurnment will be in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at anytime. For those who desire in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Butler Museum, P.O. Box 261, Butler, TN 37640; the Building Fund of Little Doe Baptist Church, 223 Doe Creek Road, Butler, TN 37640; or the charity of your choice.
