Brown to Martha Brown (Smith? is scratched out) This indenture made this 19th day of Sept in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Seventy Eight. Between John C Brown of the first part and Martha Brown of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby confessed and acknowledged do by these presents Grant, Bargain, Sell, Remise, Release Alien and Confirm unto the said party of the second part and to her heirs and assignees forever a certain tract of land situated in the county of Knox bounded as follows. Beginning on a Hickory and Post oak, thence north 46 west 88 poles to a white oak thence south 45 west 187 poles to a stake, thence south 45 east 88 poles to a Black Oak, thence north 45 East to the beginning containing one hundred acres more or less being the same tract of land conveyed to the party of the first part by Harris Karns by deed dated the 24th day of July 1858. and Registered in the Registers office of Knox County Tenn in Book X vol 2nd and page 2534-254. Together with all and regular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anymore appertaining to have and to hold said premises as described with the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part and to her heirs and assignees forever, and the said party of the first part his heirs executors administrators and assignees do covenant that at the time of the ensealing and delivery of these presents he is well seized of the above granted premises in fee simple that they are free from all encumbrances whatsoever and that he will and his heirs executors and administrators assignees shall warrant and defend the same against all lawful claims whatsoever. Y Cox and R. H. Parker subscribing witnesses to the within deed who being first sworn deposed and said that they are acquainted with John C. Brown the bargainor and that he acknowledged the same in their presence to be his act and deed upon the day it bear date witness my hand at office this 17th day of Aug 1879.
