You will note this is the same property that was originally bought from Absolem & Celey Hankins by my 2g- grandfather, John Major. It is located in north Knox County, on Stormer Road near where it intersects with Beeler Loop Road. Aunt Harriet was the sister of my grandfather (John A. Cox); and she bought out his share of the old farm in 1914. The Lena Cox mentioned is my grandfather's first wife, Sarah Adlean Cox. ------------------------------------ This Indenture made this 22th day of January AD 1914 between Elizabeth Cox, a widow, Jack Cox and wife Lena Cox of Knox County in the State of Tennessee of the first part, and Hattie S. Walker wife of M.A. Walker of Knox County, Tennessee of the 2nd part. WITNESSETH: That the said parties of the first part , for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar and love and affection to Elizabeth Cox and $400.00 cash to Jack Cox in full for his interest in both tracts to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. And the further consideratiion that the said Elizabeth Cox hereby retains a life time interest in the second described tract the said Hattie S. Walker is to have full right and control of first described tract of 20 acres has granted, bargained, sold , and do hereby grant , bargain, sell, and convey unto the said party of the second part, the following described premises to wit, situate in District No. Fifth of Knox County, Tennessee-Beginning on a mulberry on George Mynatt's line; the same being corner of the widow Cox's land and the Mynatt heirs; thence south 37 east 118 Poles to a stake on the north side of Beaver Ridge; thence north 50 east 27 Poles and two feet to a Hickory on top of the ridge; thence north 37 west 118 Poles to a stake near a cedar stump; thence south 45 west 27 Poles and two feet to the beginning, containing 20 acres also second tract beginning on an Elm on the north bank of Beaver Creek; thence north 19 west 34 Poles to a stake near a marked hickory; thence south 45 west 721 feet to a stake in Hattie S. Walker's line; thence south 37 east with said Hattie S. Walker's line 118 Poles to a stake on the north side of Beaver Ridge; thence north 50 east 936-1/2 to two Hickorys; thence north 84 Poles to a stake near a marked Black Oak corner of Robert Smith and Smith Major; thence south 44 west 86 Poles to a stake in Donaldson's old line; thence northwardly to the beginning containing 60 acres more or less the above tracts are the same Property conveyed to John Major (Father of Elizabeth Cox) by ABSOLEM HANKINS & wife CELEY by deed of record in Knox County , Tennessee in Volume # 1 Book Z, Page 316; and was willed by John Major to Elizabeth Cox and Probated in the County Court Clerks office in Estate Book 15 Page 348. with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereto appertaining, hereby releasing all claim to Homestead and Dower therein. ...........(standard legal language - then) that said premises are free from all incumbrances except the life interest of Elizabeth Cox in the second described tract of 60 acres more or less.... And Lena Cox wife of the said Jack Cox having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband acknowledged the execution of said Deed to have been done by her freely, voluntarily, & understandingly, without compulsion or restraint from her said husband, and for the purpose therein expressed.
