He was allowed pension from January 31, 1818. After the fall of Charleston many North Carolina citizens volunteered for service to oppose threatened invasion of the state. Robert Craighead was one of the volunteers. He joined the army at Lansford (which was later in Chester County, South Carolina) under Major William. R. Davie and General Sumter, on the evening before the battle of Hanging Rock. In that action he was severely wounded in the right shoulder, which became stiff and almost totally disabled. His pension was given in recognition of the disability. Although he is called Captain, there is no definite proof that he was an officer. After the Revolution he resided in Mecklenburg County, N. C. and later moved to Tennessee, where he died May 7, 1821. On April 3, 1821, he certified that he had lived in Knox County, Tennessee, for twenty years.
