February 17, 1937 XXXXXXXXXX John Doyle S.38665 BA-J/MLB Mrs. May Doyle Saunders University of Chattanooga Chattanooga, Tennessee Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of John Doyle who received pension on account of services in the Revolution, in the Maryland militia. You are furnished herein the record of John Doyle as shown in claim for pension, S. 38665, based upon his service in the Revolutionary War. The date and place of birth and names of the parents of John Doyle are not given. John Doyle was in the battles of White Plains and Woodbridge; in the last named battle he was wounded in the left arm, right thigh and leg, the date of this enlistment, length of services and names of officers not shown. He enlisted about may 13, 1777, at Baltimore, Maryland, and served as a private in Captain Lynch's company, Colonel Smallwood's Maryland regiment, was in the battles of Brandywine, Paoli, Germantown and Monmouth, and was discharged about may 18, 1780. John Doyle was allowed pension on his application executed May 9, 1818, at which time he was aged seventy years and a resident of Knox County, Tennessee. He died June 3, 1837. In 1826, the soldier referred to his wife as "some older than himself". Her name was Evaline and there was a son named William. There are no further family data shown.
