At the date of his application more than six months' service was required. Later when that requirement was abated he did not again apply. He was born February 12, 1755, in Westmoreland County, Virginia and was the son of Richard Luttrell who was also a soldier of the Revolution. James Luttrell served in Virginia troops under Captains James Dillard and Charles Christian and Colonels Peter Rose and Charles Lynch. He married Elizabeth Witt, daughter of Abner Witt. Their children were; William, Nancy, James Churchill, Martha, Lewis, Abner, Elizabeth, Sarah, Rhoda and Robert. He died in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1848.
