He was born in 1743 in Ireland. He landed in Charleston in 1746 and settled in Abbeville District, N. C., where he was residing during the War of the Revolution. He enlisted in the winter of 1777-1778 and served on various tours during four years. He was a light horseman under Captains Robert Anderson, William Harr and Samuel Roseman and Colonel Andrew Pickente in the South Carolina troops. He was in the engagement at Kettle Creek, marched to Savannah and Augusta, was at Juniper Springs and was out against the Indians. He continued to reside in Abbeville District until "sometime before the late War" (the War of 1812). He then moved to Blount County where he remained a number of years. Thence he moved to Monroe County and thence returned to Knox County. Additional Comments: From: SOME TENNESSEE HEROES OF THE REVOLUTION Compiled From Pension Statements PAMPHLET NO.
