Born 1763, Shenandoah Co., VA, lived there 3 or 4 years, then Rowan NC until commencement of Rev. War and after termination. Volunteered, Pvt, Capt. James Osborn, 3 mos., disch. & ret. Home. Drafted in co. commanded by Capt. Nicholson, attached to Regt. By Col. Locke, marched to SC, was at (?Perrysburg), 5 mos. This campaign. 2 or 3 mos. Under Capt. Isbell & Col. Isaacs, Battle of Kings Mtn. Drafted every campaign except first when volunteer. End of war to Newberry Dist., SC "many years", then Edgefield Dist. 1 or 2 years, then Greenville, SC several years when he moved to Green Co., TN, then McMinn Co. TN until present year when he moved to this county. No clergymen in neighborhood to sign affidavit. Individuals acquainted are John Nelson Sen., John Nelson Jun. and William Nelson. Several discharges, lost. Hanse Nelson (X) his mark. [NOTE: John Nelson's pension indicates he and his brother Hanse were in Newberry District, SC from ca 1785-1810 when John removed to Cocke co., TN and Hanse to Edgefield Dist., SC. John Nelson probably died in Knox Co., TN and Hanse probably died in Roane Co., TN. mlj] 12 Feb. 1834, State of TN, Knox Co.: I, John Nelson, a citizen of said co., age about 76, Hanse Nelson is my brother & a few years younger than myself. Deatherage to Pension Agent: "old Lady living in my neighborhood", Delila Nelson Widow of Hanse Nelson...she has not drawn any of the back rations, husband dead some time, hurry up and do something. She has been defrauded by some persons representing himself as agent. Please write to me if any person has drawn the money. Wilson age 87, said he was raised in SC. 1790 he was moving & stayed with Hanse and Delilah Nelson in said state, living man/wife. Knew in Meigs Co., TN as wid. Of Hanse, acquainted with Mary Ann Heathcock, who was about 64, oldest ch of said Delilah. 19 Mar 1853, State of TN, Franklin Co.: Sarah Nelson age 64 past, well acquainted with Hanse and Delilah Nelson and with oldest ch Mary Ann Heathcock formerly Mary Ann Nelson, knew her from earlyest recolection up to the day of her death, that they were children together and played together. Mary Ann Heathcock was older than affiant for they often compared their ages and she (Sarah) is now 63. Delilah now resides in Meigs Co. No way related to Delilah Nelson. 19 Mar 1853 State of TN, Franklin Co., John Heathcock age 43, his mother Mary Ann Heathcock formerly Mary Ann Nelson was oldest ch of Hanse and Delilah Nelson, resided Meigs Co., TN. His mother b 1788; he wrote it down and was particular of the year; she was an old woman at her death some years past. 10 June 1853, Knoxville, TN, letter from Esq. Tinley to pension ofc: I proved to Court that Delila Taylor m Hanse Nelson 30 January 1788, Newberry dist., SC. Hanse Nelson was a pensioner, paid Knoxville, died 2 March 1843. 10 May 1854, State of TN, Roan Co., Dellila (X) Nelson, witnessed (___ , Isaac Essix? S. six?, W. A. Simpson. Wm. Deatherage, Justice of the Peace; Austin Greene, Co. Clerk. 5 Aug 1854, State of TN, Roane Co., Delilah's affidavit witnessed by Joseph Grimsley, John H. Grimsley, Mark Nelson (X) his mark 14 Mar 1857, State of TN, Roane Co., affidavit by Stephen Ford, C. I or J Brown. 14 March 1857, State of TN, Roane Co. Taze Newman of Winchester, TN started out as her atty; Delilah replaced him with Hugh L. Tinley, Esq. of Knoxville. Wm Churchwell (WCo) sent a cover letter to Mr. Waldo, commissioner of pensions, "attend to this for my friend Hugh L.
