He was born 1742. He enlisted July 20, 1776, while residing six miles from Abingdon, Va. and served in Capt. Benjamin Gray's company, Col. Christie's Virginia regiment. He moved to North Carolina (that part which is now Tennessee) "to the waters of the Nolachuckey Rivet" where he enlisted in Capt. John Clark's company, Col. John Sevier's regiment. He died in Knox County, June 5, 1835. He married, Dec. 9, 1829 in Knox County, Nancy Israel. She applied for pension while residing in Knox County, Sept. 5, 1853 when she was 50 years of age. NOTE: Benjamin Williams was married twice. His second wife, who applied for pension, was Nancy Israel. The name of his first wife is not positively known but among her children was Elizabeth Williams who married David Key, and became the ancestress through her son, Rev. John Key, of a long and distinguished line, including many Chattanoogans. Mrs. Sarah Key Patten, Mrs. S. R. Read (Katherine Key), Mrs. Garnett Andrews (Elizabeth Key), Bessie Key Johnston, Miss Margaret Key and others.
