They are the probate documents for my 4g-grandfather, Stephen Rentfro, Jr (b. 1736); he & several others in his party were killed by indians at Crab Orchard, Tn in 1792. He is sometimes referred to as Stephen II (2nd.) We have been searching for his wife's maiden name, and these are the only documents so far found which identify her even by first name. The Moses Looney mentioned as a bondsman is Stephen Jr.'s step brother; Stephen Rentfro Sr's. 2nd marriage was to Margaret Rhea Looney , widow of Robert Looney, Jr. Robert Jr. also was killed by indians years earlier. ------------------------------------ October Sessions 1794 Stephen Rentfro On motion of Margaret Rentfro administration is granted her on the estate of Stephen Rentfro her late husband deceased who hath been qualified accordingly, and entered into bond with John Crawford and Moses Looney her securities in the sum of one thousand dollars with condition as the law directs for the faithful administration of the said estate according to law. ----------------------------------------------------- January Sessions 1795 Stephen Rentfro An inventory of the estate of Stephen Rentfro deceased was returned to court by Margaret Rentfro Admx. and admitted to record, viz. 5 cows, 4 calfs, 3 small steers, 3 heifers, 5 sheep, 1 horse, 1 mare, 2 year old colts, 20 pewter, 2 basons, 24 spoons, coffy pot, glasses, tins, 1 sett tea ware, knives and forks. --------------------------------------------------- October Sessions 1795 An account of the sales of the estate of Stephen Rentfro deceased was returned to court by John Adair specialy for Robert Houston Sheriff - and admitted to record.
