Archives is for my 3g-grandfather, Stephen Renfro III (b. 1790). He was married to Sarah Eleanor/Ellen Christer in Knox Co. in 1814. They are the parents of the old Bible page children I posted earlier, including Amanda Mary Renfro who married Curd Cox (my 2g-grandparents). The probate started after Stephen's death about January 1836 and continued until 1843; there are several records included. There also is a 3 page listing of the sales of the estate of Stephen Renfro dated 22 January 1836 which has not been transcribed here but is available. It lists items sold, the price, & the buyers' names. It also mentions an uncollectible promissory note on John A. Christer/Christian in the amount of nineteen dollars and twenty five cents. ------------------------------------- January Session 1836 Stephen Renfro On motion of Thomas Frazier Administration is granted him on the estate of Stephen Renfro deceased he having sworn and entered into bond with security as the law directs. - Swan $1.25 - State of Tennessee To Thomas Frazier greeting, whereas it hath been requested unto us in our court of pleas and quarter sessions for the county of Knox at the courthouse in Knoxville first Monday of January 1836 that Stephen Renfro late of county had died intestate having whilst living and at time of his death goods and chattles and credits the same and granting administration where of doth appoint and we being desirious that the said goods and chattels and credits may be well and faithfully administered grant unto you the said Thomas Frazier full power of (illegible) well and truly to collect and to take into your hands all and singular the goods and chattels rights (illegible) which were of the said Stephen Renfro deceased at the time of his death where ever the same may be found hereby directing? you to make or cause to be made and return to the said court, within ninety days, a true and perfect inventory of said goods and chattels rights and also to render a true and clear account of said administration when thereto required.
