KNOX COUNTY, TN - WILLS - James Reynolds, 7 February 1824 -------- Will of James Reynolds Knox County, Tennessee Administrative Settlement Books, Vol. 4, pgs. 132 - 134 April Session 1826 James Reynolds The last will and Testament of Jas Reynolds was forwarded to Court for probate whereupon Andrew Sawyers(sic) and James P. McHaffee subscribing witnesses thereto made oath that they saw said Jas Reynolds sign and seal said instrument of writing and heard him pronounce publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament and that he was at the time of publishing the same of sound mind and me- -mory to the best of their knowledge and belief which will is ordered to be recorded and is in the words and figures follow- ing to wit: In the name of God amen. I James Reynolds of the County of Knox and State of Tennessee being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory for whitch[sic] I thank God and Calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous do dispose of all such worldly substa- -nce as it hath pleased God to bless me with. I give and bequeath the same in manner following that is to say it is my will and I do order that all my Just debts and funeral Charges be paid and satisfied. Item. I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Susan all my land estate and all my personally(sic) property but I shall hereafter dispose of during her lifetime. 2 Item. I give unto my beloved son Jacob one grey mare named Pate and one saddle also one Rifle Gun which he has received. 3rd. I give unto my beloved son John one Grey mare named Fan one Cow one Bed and furniture and one Rifle Gun. 4. Item. I give unto my beloved son William one young Grey mare named Pats one Rifle Gun & Saddle. Item. I give unto my beloved son Lewis One young Stud colt named Raxdelo one one(sic) Rifle Gun One saddle. Item. It is my will that my beloved sons Andrew & Calvin when they come of age each of them to have one horse Beast each of them one Rifle Gun also each of them one saddle to be worth one hundred dollars to each one. Item. It is my will that my executors hereby appointed sell what property they think can be best spared to pay all my Just debts. Item. It is my will that my Land estate be sold at the deceased[sic] of my wife by Publick(sic) Sale and the money arising out of the sale of the Land to be equally divided among all my Children also all the personally(sic) property that my wife may possess at her decease is to be sold and equally divided among all my children and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend William Sawyers with my wife Susan executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all other or former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of February in the year of our Lord 1824. Session held for Knox County at the Courthouse in Knoxville on the first Monday April it appeareth to the Court that James Reynolds late of sd County had died having first made his last will and testa- -ment in which Susan Reynolds and William Sawyers are appointed executor & executrix and the said will having been prov- -en and admitted to record and the said Susan Reynolds and William Sawyers qualified as executor and executrix thereof it was ordered that letters Testamentary issue & we therefore empower the said Susan Reynolds and Wm Sawyer take into their possession all land singular the Goods and Chattels Rights and Credits of the said tes- -tator wheresoever the same may be found and all the just debts of said testator and all the legacies specified in said will unto(?) and truly pay as far as the said goods and Chattels Rights and Credits may extend and in all things to administer the said Goods and Chattels rights and Credits according to the letter of the said will and the Law of the Land Witness Chas McClung Clerk of our said Court at Office the first monday of April 1826. (subsequently Craig Co.), VA. James m. Susannah Troutt/Trout in Fincastle, Botetourt Co., VA, on May 31, 1799. James and Susan Reynolds lived on Big Flat Creek, Knox Co., where James d. on January 18, 1826.
