Smith, 1795: Knox Co., Tennessee Contributors Note: This Settlement belongs to what I believe to be my gggg- grandfather, John Smith. John moved into Tennessee in abt. 1783, living near Jonesbourgh on the Little Limestone Creek. He moved his family to the area of Beaver Creek north of present day Knoxville a few years later. He died in Knox Co., in April 1795. I have tried to transcribe the document exactly as written, including spelling errors and punctuation errors. APRIL SESSIONS 1795 John Smith An account of the sales of the estate of John Smith dec'd was returned to Court by Robert Houston sheriff and admitted to record amounting to One Hundred and seven Dollars & two cents Drs 107.02 R. Houston Also a further Inventory of the said estate was returned to Court by Charles Collins one of the Exrs and admitted to record to wit, nine dollars in cash. Chas X Collins Exr. (his mark) July Sessions 1795 John Smith An inventory of the estate of John Smith dec'd estate was returned to Court by Charles Collins Exr and admitted to Record- 6 head of Cattle, 1 Mare, 1 Horse, 5 Hoggs, 1 pair of plough Irons, double trees, big Clevis, 1 pair of Iron chains, 2 collars, 1 Mattock, 2 hoes, 1 handsaw, 1 drawing knife, 2 augers, 1 Smooth gun, 1 saddle, 1 pot, 1 dutch oven, 2 flax wheels, some household furniture, four Ten pound notes to be paid in corn at 2/ shillings pr bushel, the first payable next fall, the others payable yearly. April 7, 1795 his Charles X Collins mark (40) John Smith Ordered that the Sheriff do expose to sale the perishable part of the estate of John Smith deceased after legal publication thereof.
