Hughes rnrh@bellsouth.net September 29, 2005, 4:41 pm Lawrence Democrat: 14 Jan. 1925 Thomas Hughes It is not often that a death of anyone in a community causes more universal expressions of sincere sorrow from every class of our citizenry, old and young, than did that of Thomas Hughes, which occurred at his home Southwest of town on last Friday morning after an illness of only a few days of pneumonia. For years he had been in charge of the city power station on Shoal Creek and day and night found him at his post of duty serving with a faithfulness and effiency that challenged the admiration and respect of us all. A quiet reserved man, no one ever had a kindlier heart or more obliging dispostion. We all loved Tom Hughes and are shocked and grieved at his untimely death. He was about 50 years old, and leaves a family. The burial was on Saturday at Nelson Graveyard, with feeling services conducted by Rev. J.C. Cullom pastor of the First Baptist Church of this city. W.P. McClanahan was undertaker in charge of the burial. Additional Comments: No date is mentioned in the obit. Date of Death is early January 1925.
