Know all men by these presents that we John McCan & Starkey Sharp of the 
County of Lawrence and State of Tennesse are held and firmly bound unto the 
Governor of said state for the time being in the sum of $1250.00 to be paid 
to his excellency his successors in office or assigns to which payment well 
and truly to be made we bind ourselves our hairs executors and administrators 
and each and every of us and them Jointly owed severally providing by this 
presents witness our hands and seals this 24th day of September 1833.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas John McCan has 
prayed and obtained a licence to marry Polly Brashears now if the said Polly 
be in actual resident in the aforesaid county and then shall not appear any 
unlawful cause why the said John Mccan & Polly Brashears should not be joined 
together in holy matrimony as husband and wife then this obligation to be 
void and of no effect this wise to remain in full force and virtue.
