The Governor
Given 1st of Aug 1837
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, THAT WE Craig Simmons and John Carter all 
of the county of Lawrence and State of Tennessee, are held and firmly bound 
unto the Governor of the said State for the time being and his successors in 
office in the sum of $1250 for the payment of which we lend ourselves over.  
Heres Jonintly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seales 
and dated the 1th day of July 1837.  The conditions of the above obligation is 
such that whereas the above bound Craig Simmons has prayed and obtained a 
license to marry Sarah Brashers.  Now if the said Sarah be an actual Resedent 
of the foresaid County and there shall not appear a lawful cause why the said 
Craig Simmons and Sarah Brashers should be joined togeather in the Holy State 
of Matrimony as Husband & wife then the above poid Cla in full fover and Perteu

To any Regular minister of the Gospel having the care of souls or any Justice 
of the Peace in and for said County These are to authorize Either of you to 
Soleminize the rites of Matrimony between Craig Simmons and Sarah Brashers of 
our county agreeable to and act of Assembly in such case made and provided.  
Provided always that the aforesaid Sarah Brashers be an actual Resident of the 
aforesaid County otherwise these shall not be accounted any authority to you 
for the same more than the the sum had never been provided or Granted  Given 
under my hand at office this 1st day of July 1837
