CARLOSS, PRIDE, FRANKLIN Andrew J. CARLOSS is a son of Archelaus and Ruth (PRIDE) CARLOSS, is one of their thirteen children and was born in North Carolina in 1815. The father was born in North Carolina in 1767, and was a son of Edward C. CARLOSS, who was born in Spain and immigrated to America when a young man. Archelaus' parents died when he was small, and he was apprenticed to learn the carpenter's trade, and while serving his apprenticeship assisted in building the first State capitol of North Carolina. He and wife died in North Carolina in 1845 and 1826, respectively. Andrew J. received a practical education, and at the age of nineteen came to Tennessee, where he has always made his home, with the exception of a short time spent in Alabama. July 30, 1839, he married Mary Ann FRANKLIN, granddaughter of ex-Gov. FRANKLIN, of North Carolina, who died at the age of fourteen years.* Mr. CARLOSS owns 2,800 acres of land, and is a man of undoubted integrity. He has been a lifelong Democrat. His wife was born in Alabama in August, 1821.
