They would have been early settlers of the County. William Maddox abt. 1775 and wife (?) were in Lincoln County in the early 1800's. All of his children were born in Lincoln. 1)William J. Maddox abt.1798 2)Nicholas Maddox b.12/25/1800 went to TX in 1838. 3)Wilson L. Maddox abt 1805 4)John C. Maddox b.4/8/1811 m.Polly Jones d.9/11/1901 in Lincoln 5)James Maddox b.1815 went to TX in 1840's. 6)Nancy Maddox b.? William Maddox bought and sold land in 1814 and 1816 in Lincoln County, according to land deed records. He later is found on the Monroe County, Mississippi 1820 census. We the undersigned freehold citizens being summoned by WILLIAM WILSON, Deputy Sheriff of Lincoln County, pursuant to an order of the Court of Lincoln County at their August Session 1814, to lay off dower to SARAH SHIP, relict and widow of DANIEL SHIP, deceased of said County, after finding that the said DANIEL SHIP died seized and possessed of a certain tract of land on both sides of Elk River in said County of 532 acres as set forth in the petition of the said SARAH have proceeded to lay off 177 1/3 acres including the mansion house and out houses late the residence of the said DANIEL. Franklin This indenture made and entered into this 27 day Feb 1844 between Aaron Hardin of one part & Benjamin Franklin, the other part, both of the County of Lincoln and State of Tennessee. Witness that the said Aaron Hardin for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid and the other consideration mentioned have bargained and sold and by these present, do bargain sell unto the said Benjamin Franklin his heirs and assign forever the following property to wit, my undivided interest in a of land being descended to my wife by the death of her father Joshua Smith died in said County of Lincoln State aforesaid and in district No. 3 also the following personal property to with, 28 head of hogs, 3 head of cattle, one bay mare, 30 head of geese, and one loom, to have and to hold the same to the said Franklin his heirs and assigns forever upon trust. But this deed is made for the following use and trust and for not other purpose that is to say I am indebted to Thomas Wakefield in the sum of Twenty five dollars by Note under seal of this date and due the 25th of Dec next. Now if I should pay said note of #25 by the time it falls due, then and in that case this deed is to be void and of no effect.
