So far I have not had any luck. I have a couple of articles that were printed in 1936 and 1937 from a newspaper in Philadelphia, Mississippi (Neshoba County). My grandmother was Fannie Clark before she married John R. Johnson. These articles were about her father and her grandfather. Her father was Ebenezer Samuel Clark, born in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1835, moved to Mississippi with his mother and another brother in 1840, and grew up to be a Baptist preacher. He married an Elizabeth Winfield and had a large family. She died and then he married a Mary Marshall. But Elizabeth Winfield was my great grandmother, not Mary Marshall. Ebenezer's father was a John Clark who, according to these two articles, was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, in 1790. He married an Elizabeth Mackie. They had a huge family. I am wondering if you have come across any of these names in your searching through Lincoln County or perhaps Columbia, Tennessee, to be more specific. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get or if you have any suggestions. Thanking you in advance, I am Carolyn Sue Howard E-Mail address choward@mailgw.sanders.com And by the way, I'm not too far removed from where you are. Tn. Genealogy List. Was browsing the www tngen page and found my way here! I am researching my McAlister roots, which go back into Lincoln Co. My first ancestor to Lincoln Co. was "Andrew McCollister" who arrived sometime in 1830 or 1831 from the Chester district in SC. He may have come with some fols from the ARP church, and had a close tie with a "Hicklin" family. My great grandfather was one Samuel McCollister, who married three times. Sarah Daniel was my grandfather's (John Thomas McAlister) mother. My father was J. T. McAlister, who lived in Lincoln Co. until after WW2. Right now, I am stuck in a couple of areas. I cannot determine who Andrew was married to, and I don't know where Andrew came from. Some say he was born around 1790 in SC, but I am unable to verify that. I am looking for clues, advice, suggestions, etc. Also willing to share what little I have with others. How many companies did they have, were these companies made up of men from LCT only or the surrounding area too, where do I find more information, were all of these men eligible for pensions or land later. Drury/Drewry SHELTON b ca 1790 in VA was a Pvt. and fifer in the War of 1812 in Capt. Thomas Delaney's Co. of Inf., 2 Reg. Tenn. Militia from 9-20-1814 to 4-10-1815. On June 9, 1815 Drewry SHELTON of Lincoln County TN appointed attorney, Jas.? HANNA and Thomas CRUCHERETT? to recover money due him ($9 per month- served 6 months and 21 days- owed $60) - signed Drewry SHELTON and witness Hugh M. BLAKE Jr. (records from Natl. Archives) There are several researchers who have traced their SHELTON ancestor back to Drury/Drewry. We have been to Lincoln County twice and found no other record of Drury even though there were numerous SHELTONS in the county. He is not in the 1820 census. By 1823 Drury was in Bibb Co., AL. From there he moved to Tuscaloosa then Greene Co., AL, Leake County MS and then Ashley County AR by 1850. Any information on Drury or LCT in the War or 1812 will be appreciated. Thanks!
