He was born April 2, 1759, in Amelia County, Virginia. While residing in Bedford County, Virginia, in August, 1777, he volunteered in Captain John Talbot's company, Colonel David Mason's Virginia regiment. He enlisted in April, 1779, in Captain Holman Rice's company, Colonel Francis Taylor's regiment and guarded British prisoners at Albemarle Barracks. He was discharged May 1, 1781. After the Revolution he resided in Campbell County, Virginia, and moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee, in 1831. He died July 10, 1833, in Lincoln County. He married April 15, 1788, in Campbell County, Virginia, Lucy Jennings. In 1840, she was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and was then 70 years of age. Children are mentioned in the pension record but their names are not given. In 1840, William Pamplin, Sr., a resident of Lincoln County, stated that he married a sister of the widow Lucy Jennings Hanks. Note:- The name Abraham Hanks is interesting apart from the above data. The fact that this soldier lived in Lincoln County may be considered merely a coincidence as may be also the fact that Lucy was a name in the family of Nancy Hanks who was the mother of President Abraham Lincoln.
