The data wich follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, S.3602, based upon the military service of William Wilkins, the only soldier of that name that is found in the Revolutionary War records of this office. William Wilkins was born January 25, 1764, in "Hartford County" (probably meant for Hertford County), North Carolina. The name of his parents were not given. While a resident of that county he enlisted February 16, 1780, as private in Captain L. Brown's company in Colonel Robert Caswell's North Carolina regiment and was discharged August 4, 1780. He enlisted March 1, 1782, as private in Captain Abraham Porter's North Carolina company and was discharged April 4, 1782. He moved from said county to Sumner County, Tennessee, and from there to Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 19, 1832, at which time he was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee. One Jacob Wilkins, Junior, was living in Maury County, Tennessee, in 1832, but his relation to the soldier was not given. The papers in this claim contain no further data relative to the soldier's family. Very truly yours G.H.
