About 22 guests were present. A picnic lunch was served. Pfc. Robert Russell, of Camp Claiborne, La., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell. Mrs. D. B. Clayton, of Nashville, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. George Stephenson. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hastings are on an extended visit to their daughter, Mrs. Davis, of McMinnville. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Haggerty, of Gallatin, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gill. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Freeman, of Jackson, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holloway. Miss June Archer has returned from Huntington College, Ala. Mr. Bobby Moss, of Chattanooga, visited Mrs. Moss and children. He was accompanied by Mrs. Moss and children. Dickey Miller, of Nashville, is visiting his grandmother, Mrs. R. K. Morgan, Sr. Mrs. Oliver Sherrell and baby were in Lewisburg Monday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Will Cowden spent Sunday in Huntsville. Mr. Louis and Vance Greer, of Clinton, spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. J. M. Greer. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dwiggins, of Atlanta, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gill. Mrs. Joe Gill and granddaughter, of Sarasota, Fla., are visiting relatives here. Mr. Boone Wells, of Huntsville, was in Petersburg this week. Misses Sara Ralston and Alice Morgan are spending the week in Lewisburg with the former's aunt, Mrs. Burt. The Junior League was hostess to a beautifully planned social, honoring Mr. Stone Woodard, who left Monday for induction in the army. Mrs. T. L. Warren complimented her son, George Warren, with a beautifully planned party, honoring his 18th birthday. Games, music and contests were enjoyed. Tempting refreshments were served. August 24, 1944 Social Happenings At Petersburg Morgan School The fall term of the Morgan School for boys and the Petersburg Grammar School will open Monday, September 4. A capacity enrollment is expected at both schools. Making up the fall term faculty for the Morgan School are: R. Kenneth Morgan, headmaster; Ernest F. Baulch, principal and mathematics; John G. Morgan, coach and social science; Thomas B. Clark, Latin; J. T. Johnson, English; J. H. Mitchell, junior school. * * * Visitors Honored Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wade entertained with a family dinner Friday honoring his sister, Mrs. Charles Ledford and Mr. Ledford, of Birmingham. Relatives attending besides the honor guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Morgan, Alice and Bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Scott and Dan, and Miss Pearl Wade. * * * Corporal Scott Entertained A clipping from an overseas publication sent to Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Scott states that their son, Cpl. Edwin Scott was a guest at a party in Trinidad, given by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lobo, to honor Mrs. Vi Longworth, who is returning to the U. S. for a holiday. After games and dancing, a buffet supper was served. * * * Barbecue Picnic Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Morgan were hosts to a most delightful picnic and barbecue on the Morgan School campus Thursday evening honoring a large group of local friends. The summer school students were also served. This was indeed an occasion of community good spirit and fellowship. The Rev. M. K. Harwell in well chosen words expressed the thanks and appreciation of the assembly to the hosts and their helpers, the faculty members and dormitory management for this unstinted hospitality. * * * W. C. T. U. Meeting Mrs. D. B. Smith was hostess to the WCTU Friday afternoon at her home. The president, Mrs. J. M. Greer, presided. The program subject was Peace. Mrs. W. B. Moore rendered a very impressive devotional. The song Wonderful Peace was sung by the union. Articles on the program subject were read by Mesdames Quint Barham, R. K. Morgan, Sr., George Stephenson, and D. B. Smith. Roll call response was Peace Items. Guests of the union were Mrs. Lilla Loving Ford, of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. J. M. Stammer, mother of the hostess. The hostess was assisted by her mother in serving light refreshments. * * * Business Changes Hands J. F. and J. L. Simpson, of Booneville, have bought the grocery, feed and hardware stores of T. A. Couch & Sons and will operate in connection with their store at Booneville. * * * Edward Gill Hosts Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gill entertained at dinner Saturday evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gill and daughter, Jane, of Sarasota, Fla. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Gill and Miss Mary Gill Moore. * * * Mrs. Daves Entertains Mrs. James Daves entertained at her home Friday evening to compliment Miss Courtney Gillespie, of Nashville, and Miss Jane Gill, of Sarasota, Fla., guests of Miss Mary Gill Moore. In the game of cootie, Miss Laura Mai Davidson won high score prize and Miss Geraldine Sorrells received the consolation. Miss Edith Morrison and son are in Camden spending their vacation with relatives. Mrs. L. G. Mrs. Tom Hobbs left Thursday for Hattisburg, Miss., to visit her husband who is stationed at Camp Shelby. Mrs. W. M. Scott, George and Mrs. Howard Cummings were in Shelbyville Saturday night. They were accompanied home by Mr. Carroll Scott, Mrs. Harold Scott and son, Terry Allen. Mrs. Cassie Dwiggins Crawford is on an extended visit to Mrs. Sam Dwiggins, of Lawrenceburg. Miss Katherine Adams is visiting Mrs. Earl Pylant, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Ralston, of Lewisburg, were Sunday night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Watkins. Miss Betty Jo Cummings, of Fayetteville, spent last week here with relatives and friends. Word has been received here by Mrs. W. S. Joplin and Mrs. H. B. Whitaker that their nephew, George Gillespie, son of Mr. Frank Gillespie, of Texas, has been killed in action somewhere in France. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe Tudor, of Huntsville, spent the weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bolles. Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Scott are spending their vacation in Knoxville. George Whitaker, of St. Joseph, Mo., with a transport command, is spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Whitaker and other relatives. Rodes August 31, 1944 Petersburg Letter Petersburg Colt Show The 60th annual consecutive Colt Show will take place at the local grounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5 and 6. There will be two full days of stock show and one night Tuesday, of the horse show. An added outstanding feature will be the Jersey show on Tuesday, which will be made permanent. M. K. Harwell, Miss Jean Adams became the bride of Robert Norris Clark, both young people of the Ostella community. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Adams and the bridegroom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Clark. Both are graduates of Cornersville High School. * * * Party Compliments Visitor Miss Geraldine Sorrells was hostess to a party Friday evening to compliment her guest, Miss Joan Crutcher, of Lynchburg. The guest list numbered twenty-four. Both in and outdoor games were enjoyed. The roasting of wieners added to the pleasures of the evening. Another out-of-town guest besides the honoree was Miss Laura Wharton, of Atlanta. * * * Red Cross Work Due to the lack of material, Red Cross work has been suspended for a few weeks. Ample materials are on hand now and the services of all ladies of the town and community are requested to assist in getting out the large quota of supplies. * * * Family Dinner Mr. and Mrs. R. Kenneth Morgan entertained with a family dinner Sunday complimenting the following relatives: Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Harwell directed The Spiritual Life Lesson. * * * Services At Hickory Hill Rev. D. B. Smith is engaged in a series of services at Hickory Hill, Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Chestnut Ridge this week. The services are conducted in the evening only. * * * Sunday School Class Entertained Mrs. Herman Scott delightfully entertained her Sunday School class of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with an outing to the Colt Show grounds Saturday afternoon. * * * Petersburg H. D. C. Meets Mesdames John and Arthur Talley were joint hostesses to the Petersburg HDC at the club room Tuesday afternoon. Seasonal flowers in artistic arrangements were used in the decorations for the occasion. The Meeting was opened by singing America. followed by the reading of the club creed in unison. Reports were made by the project leaders. Mesdames Oliver Talley and Willie Mae Scott directed recreation. Miss Jones, county demonstrator, demonstrated handicraft. Roll call response was Games I like to play. The hostess served delicious sandwiches and iced drinks. * * * Birthday Party Mrs. Jesse Moore honored her son, Billy Sam, with a party Thursday afternoon is celebration of his 8th birthday. Attractive entertainment features were, the gift shower, the playing of games, and serving ice cream with the lovely birthday cake from which the honoree had extinguished the eight lighted candles. Seventeen guests comprised this little company. * * * Deaths George W. Gillespie September 14, 1944 Petersburg Man Given Silver Star With The Infantry Division In France - For continuing to fire his machine gun in the face of a strong enemy counterattack in order to order his unit's withdrawal during the Battle for Normandy, Pfc. Rex L. O'Neal of Petersburg, Tenn., has been awarded the Silver Star. Under heavy enemy fire, all other members of the gun crew except one were killed or wounded. Pfc. O'Neal and the other member of the crew continued to cover the unit's withdrawal until he was wounded by fragments from an enemy artillery shell. He has since been awarded the Purple Heart in addition to the Silver Star. He is the son of Cabe L. O' Neal of Route three, Petersburg. January 18, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Missing in Action Sgt. Joe Edgar King is missing in action in the European war zone, according to a message received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Holt King of Howell. He is a grandson of Will King of this place, and nephew of Mrs. Neil Green and Mrs. J. O. Jones of Petersburg. He received his grade and high school education here and has many friends who will learn with deep regret of this message. His brother Tech. Sergeant Jack Dyer King is serving in Europe. * * * P. T. A. Meeting The PTA held the regular monthly meeting at the elementary school Thursday afternoon. In the business session, a report was made by Mrs. Bert Watt, chairman of the membership committee. The sixth grade received the award for most mothers enrolled, also the awarded for most mothers present. It was voted to again serve Morgan School Junior-Senior banquet at the commencement season. Announcement was made that the seventh grade would render the Founder's Day program at the February meeting. Mrs. J. D. Eakin led the devotional, after which the sixth grade, directed by their teacher, Mrs. A. B. K. Morgan and George Stephenson were joint hostess to the Research Club at the home of the latter, Monday afternoon. The house was attractively decorated in potted plants. Mesdames E. F. Baulch and J. T. Johnson directed the program, which was based on the subject of Fine Arts. Mrs. Johnson gave a sketch of the program. Mrs. J. M. Greer's number was The Necklace, by Guy de Maupassant. Mrs. J. F. Haynes gave the poem, Cliffs of Dover. Mrs. J. D. Eakin rendered two piano numbers from McDowell. Miss Alice Morgan of Lewisburg, a guest, delighted the club with special music. Out-of-town guests in attendance besides Miss Morgan, were Mesdames Clayton, Johnson, Murray and McClenahan, all of Lewisburg, and Mrs. R. E. Lee of Pulaski. February 1, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Petersburg HDC The Petersburg HDC met Tuesday afternoon at the club room with Mesdames Jepp Collier and Boone Moore as joint hostesses. Mrs. Moore, president, presided over the business session, in which the program for the year was outlined. The demonstrator, Miss Jones, told future plans, and commented on the program. The TB hospital fund received special emphasis in the new year's program. Mrs. R. E. Collier conducted devotional, after which Mrs. J. M. Greer reviewed the book The Necklace. Hostesses were named for the new year and "Secret Pals" chosen. Delightful refreshments were served by the hostesses during the social hour. * * * Miss Woodard Hostess Miss Earline Woodard entertained with a party of lovely appointment at her home Tuesday evening, to compliment her friend, Douglas Underwood of Nashville, who was home from the Navy. Patriotic decorations were used throughout the reception rooms, where rook was played. Refreshments were served from the dining table which was centered with patriotic emblems. Plate favors also emphasized the patriotic idea. There were thirteen guests who enjoyed this hospitality. * * * Anniversary Observance Rev. S. O. McAdoo announces that the 11:00 o'clock service at the Boonshill C. P. Church next Sunday will be in observance of the 135th anniversary of the organization of the church at Dickson, Tennessee. * * * Presbyterian Auxiliary The Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church met with Mrs. E. C. Rice on Tuesday afternoon. Devotional was led by Mrs. T. L. Warren. Mrs. J. F. Haynes was director of the subject Into the New World, preparatory to Foreign Mission Week. The meeting was conducted with sentence prayers. * * * Methodist Missionary Society Mrs. W. S. Joplin was hostess to the Methodist Missionary Society Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Thomas Moore presided and directed the review of The World Outlook and Methodist Woman. Mrs. W. W. Gill was in charge of devotional. After the program the members enjoyed a social hour in which Mrs. Joplin served light refreshments. * * * Personals Mrs. Boone Moore had as guests Sunday her mother, Mrs. Lottie Gammill, and sister, Mrs. Thomas Wiseman of Lynchburg. Mrs. S. H. Allen, who has been attending her daughter, Mrs. Claude Greer of Union City, for the past several weeks, returned home last week, reporting Mrs. Greer's condition much more satisfactory. Rev. S. O. McAdoo and Rev. D. B. Smith attended the funeral Monday of Rev. F. M. Copeland of Flintville. Henry Cole returned from a Lewisburg hospital Saturday. Miss Eva Land left Wednesday afternoon for Ashville, N. C., to visit her nephew, Capt. P. B. Land, and Mrs. Land. W. W. Gill was in Nashville on business last Thursday. Mrs. Bera Farris of Chapel Hill is spending some time with her mother and sister, Mrs. J. M. Stammer and Mrs. D. B. Smith. Mrs. Hal Moore and Mary Gill have returned from a visit to Nashville. C. T. U. Meeting An executive meeting of the WCTU was held Tuesday afternoon with the president, Mrs. J. M. Greer as hostess, at her home. Mrs. W. B. Moore was in charge of the devotional. A business session was held, after which Mrs. Greer, delegate to the state convention, gave a detailed report of the convention sessions. * * * Sunday School Class Entertained Mrs. J. D. Eakin entertained the young people's Sunday School class of the Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. H. B. Whitaker is teacher, at her home Wednesday evening. Seven tables of rook enjoyed this party. Misses Jane Stephenson and Elaine Haynes were highest scorers. Thirty-five guests shared this hospitality. Mrs. Eakin and Joan served refreshments after the game. * * * Christian Woman's Council The Christian Women's Council of the Petersburg community will hold the first quarterly meeting February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church here. The program will feature an inspirational guest speaker, a devotional, World Day of Prayer program and a shot business session. The public is cordially invited to attend. * * * Rook Club Mrs. R. K. Foster. * * * Boys and Girls Play Flintville Both the boys and girls basketball teams went to Flintville Friday night for a game with the lads and lasses of that school. The games resulted in victory for Petersburg girls, but the boys lost to Flintville. * * * Auxiliary Entertained Mrs. George Russell entertained the auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church with a spend-the-day party Tuesday. The foreign mission study book West of the Date Line was reviewed. * * * Tacky Party The students of Morgan School had a jolly get-together Friday evening at the gym in the form of a tacky party. July 5, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Rook Club Miss Pearl Wade was hostess to her rook club Thursday afternoon at her apartment. Gift bouquets of summer flowers were effectively used in the living room as decorations for the party. The game was played at two tables and Mrs. G. C. Hart was the highest scorer. July 12, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Hensley-Massey Mr. and Mrs. Tom Massey of Fayetteville announce the marriage of their daughter, Mayme, to Clifford Hensley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hensley of Petersburg, on Monday, May 21, in Huntsville, with Judge Thomas W. Jones officiating in his office. Mr. Hensley recently returned from several months overseas with the army, and has received an honorable discharge. They are residing temporarily with his parents here. * * * Nichols-Aldrich Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Aldrich announce the marriage of their daughter, Margaret, to William Roy Nichols, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Pigg was totally destroyed by fire Friday morning between 11:00 and 12:00 o'clock, together with practically all the contents. The fire originated from as oil stove, during the process of cooking the noon meal. Joplin in the loss of their residence and contents by fire on last Tuesday morning, also for the Whitaker family who were residents of it. The origin of the fire was unknown, but supposed to have been caused by defective electric wiring. The loss is partially covered by insurance. * * * HDC Serves At Pylant Sale The J. E. "Hub" Pylant sale on last Thursday brought a large crowd to Petersburg, The ladies of the HDC served lunch and had satisfactory receipts, which will be applied on the improvements of the community club rooms. Blakemore August 2, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Pack-Brown Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown announce the marriage of their daughter, Christine, to James Robert Pack, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Pack on Tuesday, July 24, in Huntsville, with Judge Jones officiating. Both the bride and groom were members of the senior class of Morgan School this year, the former having attained the honor of valedictorian of the class. They will reside with the groom's parents. * * * Petersburg HDC The Petersburg HDC met with Mrs. Quint Barham Tuesday at her home near Bledsoe, this being the annual club picnic. The guests assembled at a late morning hour and the picnic lunch was served from tables in the spacious living room of the Barham home. Mrs. Barham as assisted in serving and other courtesies by her niece, Mrs. Marvin French of Dallas, Texas. A short program was rendered including devotional by Mrs. D. B. Smith and a demonstration by Miss Jones, on weaving of rugs. The program was followed by games and recreation. Freeman made a very forceful address to the Bible class in Sunday school. * * * Birthday Party Billy Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Moore, was the honoree of a beautifully planned party Friday afternoon at his home in celebration of his fourth birthday. Billy greeted his twelve guests at the door and the joys of the occasion began, Mrs. Herman Scott directed many indoor games and stunts, during which, delicious candies were served. Gifts tied with multicolored ribbons were concealed in a box. The ribbons were displayed and each guest drew a gift according to his favorite ribbon. They were souvenirs of the party, Mrs. J. D. Eakin presided at the piano and the guests sang Happy Birthday to You to their honoree. The birthday cake with four lighted candles was a delight to the guests, as well as Billy. In a uni que manner Billy was presented with a shower of gifts by all present. Outdoor recreation, swings, see-saws, etc., were other happy entertainment features. The gun was discharged by a playmate while a group was at play, killing the youth instantly. The Parent Teachers Association of the elementary school held its first meeting of the school year, Thursday afternoon, with Mrs. John Talley, president, presiding. Minutes of the former meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report were made. In the business session it was voted to contribute to play ground equipment for the school, a supplement to the janitor's salary was also voted. The president appointed the various committees for the year and gave a detailed report of the county council meeting at Fayetteville. Mrs. J. N. Murdock conducted the devotional based on a lesson from Hebrews. The objectives of the PTA for the year was read by the president. Mrs. J. C. Pigg read the state president's message. The meeting was concluded with the reading of the PTA prayer by Mrs. Jesse Moore. The attendance award went to the third grade. * * * Research Club Mrs. Jack Cummings and Mrs. S. H. Allen were joint hostesses to the Research Club Monday afternoon at the home of the former. The Cummings home was unusually attractive in decorations of gift bouquets of choice flowers of the season. This being the first meeting of the club year the newly elected president, Mrs. S. H. Allen, brought greetings to the club. Mrs. T. D. Moore, chairman of the program committee gave an outline of the year's work. Personality and Character Building was an excellent paper rendered by Mrs. George Stephenson. Carter of Madison, Ala., formerly of Petersburg announce the marriage of their daughter, Elsie Mai, to S1-C William Monroe Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bryant of near here. The ceremony took place in Huntsville, on September 21, with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hall of Madison as the only attendants. The bride is a graduate of Morgan School. The bridegroom has been serving in the U. S. Navy for two and a half years. He will return to service after spending his furlough with relatives here. * * * Football Game The team from Lewisburg grade school played the Morgan Juniors Friday afternoon, resulting in a 20-6 victory for Morgan. The varsity team goes to Manchester for a game Friday night. * * * Coble-Beard Miss Tommie Beard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cy Beard, became the bride of Flournoy Coble of Pulaski, at a ceremony in Alabama on September 19. They will reside in Miami, Fla., where the bridegroom is employed at an airfield. He received a discharge from the marines after five years of service. Charles Ivy Sanders and Miss Grace Freeman, daughter of Mrs. Pearl Freeman, were married in Athens, Ala., on September 15. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Sanders, attended the Bedford County schools and recently returned from two years of overseas duty. Roll call response was a quiz on state government. At the conclusion of the program the hostesses were assisted in serving refreshments by Mrs. McRady's daughters, Mesdames J. D. Sugg and Marshall Talley. * * * Services At C. P. Church The Rev. E. H. Denman of Kelso was guest speaker at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Sunday morning. He was greeted by a very appreciative audience. * * * Gift Tea Mrs. Clarence Freeman was hostess to a gift tea complimenting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles I. Sanders, a recent bride. Tea was served upon the arrival of the guests. Miss Dorothy Sanders presided at the register and registered the guests. Salad plates were served in the late afternoon. * * * W. S. C. S. Holds Meeting The Woman's Society of Christian Service met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. John Talley as hostess at her home. There was a full attendance of members. The hostess was the program leader. The subject was Doors None Can Shut, with all members taking part in the program. A social hour followed the program, in which the hostess served a salad plate. * * * Bride Honored A miscellaneous gift shower honoring Mrs. Billy Bryant, was given at the home of Mrs. W. R. Bryant on Wednesday afternoon. Contests were conducted by Mrs. Doyle Collier Barnes. A salad course was served in the late afternoon. Forty guests attended. * * * Morgan Win Over BGA In the Morgan-BGA game Friday night at Franklin the score was 18-7 in favor of Morgan. A large group from here attended the game. * * * P. T. A. Meeting The PTA of the elementary school met Tuesday afternoon in the spacious auditorium of the school building with a record attendance of members and visitors. Mrs. John Talley, president, presided over the business session and read the state PTA president's message. Miss Ann Woodard, treasurer, gave a detailed report of the finances of the association and a report of school equipment bought. The program subject for the afternoon was Discipline in the Home. Devotional was conducted by Mrs. D. B. Smith on the program subject. Mrs. Jepp Collier read a very interesting article on the same subject. Glennara Stone of the 8th grade favored the association with a piano solo. The attendance prize was given to the 6th grade. The program was concluded with prayer, after which a social hour was enjoyed in the school cafeteria, where many improvements have been recently made. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ebert Stevens. Both are employed in the shoe factory at Lewisburg. They will reside temporarily with the groom's parents. * * * Council Meeting The Christian Women's Council will hold their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church. All women of the community are invited to attend. * * * Church Founder Guest Speaker The Rev. A. P. Gregory of Florida formerly of Petersburg, was guest speaker at Gregory's Chapel Presbyterian Church, near here, Sunday morning. He was founder of this church which bears his name, and the congregation was delighted to have him return. Shaddy, who has been postmaster at Petersburg for several years has been transferred to the ------- carriers' position on Route 1, ------- D. B. Bledsoe was hostess to the Petersburg HDC at the club rooms Tuesday in an all-day meeting. The president, Mrs. Boone Moore presided. Miss Isidore Williams, handicraft specialist of U. T. was present and gave the demonstration on making hearth brooms, which was the program of the day. A delightful lunch contributed by club members, with the hostess serving special dishes, was enjoyed at noon. Mrs. Harris Glasscock of Fayetteville was an additional guest. * * * Box Supper At Morgan School The Senior class of Morgan School sponsored a box supper Wednesday night, which was not only an ideal social affair but also netted a nice sum for class expenses for the year. * * * 4-H Club The Petersburg girls 4-H Club had an interesting meeting this week at the elementary school under the direction of Miss Nell Jones, HD agent. Denman of Kelso was again guest speaker at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Sunday evening, when an appreciative audience greeted him. He has an appointment to preach again second Sunday morning in November. * * * Bible Study At Church of Christ Wayne Davidson is director of the weekly Bible study for the juniors at the Church of Christ. This study is conducted each Sunday evening at 7:30 and is well attended. * * * W. C. T. U. State Convention Mrs. J. M. Greer went to Nashville Tuesday to attend executive board meeting at the Andrew Jackson Hotel of the state WCTU Convention, prior to the two day session of the convention on Wednesday and Thursday which she will also attend. * * * Mrs. Dempsey Hostess Mrs. George Dempsey was hostess to a group of friends at a rook and bingo party Thursday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. November 8, 1945 Social Happenings At Petersburg Stephenson-Delf Announcement is made here of the marriage of Miss Dorothy Delf of Louisville, to Tom Stephenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Stephenson. Scott entertained at dinner Sunday evening to compliment their son Pfc. Lucian Scott of Camp Campbell, Ky., and his friend, Miss Betty Smith of Fayetteville. * * * Halloween Party Mary and Jimmy Collier entertained a group of their school friends with a well planned party on Halloween at their homes on the Chestnut Ridge road. Witches and ghosts were in evidence indoors and out. The guests were met by some of the spirits, which escorted them by a magic line to the kitchen entrance where other weird folk accompanied them to the living room where games were played. Refreshing Coca-Colas were served during the games. Wieners were roasted over a huge bonfire on the lawn. * * * The Council of Christian Women The Council of Christian Women met at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. H. B. Whitaker presiding. After a very interesting program the Presbyterian women invited the assembly to tea, where Mrs. George Russell and Mrs. Thomas Warren, Jr., presided at a beautifully appointed table and poured tea. A representative group from the local churches was in attendance. * * * Mrs. Boone Moore Hostess Mrs. Boone Moore entertained her rook club at their home Thursday afternoon. The house was beautified with flowers of the late season. Rook and bingo were the chosen games of the afternoon. Rook was played at three tables with Mrs. T. B. Clark highest scorer. Club guests were Mesdames R. H. Beasley, Howard Cummings, Jepp Collier, Tom Pierce and J. O. Jones. Mrs. Metcalf has sufficiently recovered from her illness to be brought to her home here from a Lewisburg hospital. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Scott were in Nashville Saturday to visit his mother, Mrs. S. E.
