George W. Gillespie, 19, of San Antonio, Texas, nephew of Mrs. W. S. Joplin and Mrs. H. B. Whitaker, of Petersburg, was killed in action in France on July 30. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Fran* * * M. Gillespie, of San Antonio. Lt. Gillespie received his reserve commission from Texas Military Institute before entering the University of the South at Sewanee in September, 1942. He was called to active duty in February, 1943, receiving officer training at Fort Benning, Ga., and later going to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Lt. Gillespie has two brothers in service, Lt. Frank M. Gillespie, Jr., USNR, stationed in Washington, D. C., and Capt. James V. Gillespie, U. S. Army Air Corps, who was seriously wounded last year while on his 45th bombing mission over Sicily.
