Harrison, one of the oldest if not the oldest Confederate soldier in Gibson County, having passed his 84th mile post in this life, with 7 months and 19 days of the 85th mile. Mr. Harrison was born in Lincoln County in 1831,and was first married to Miss Elizabeth Cunningham, to which union, eight children were born, four of whom are still living: Mr. J.R. Harrison, Mr. J.C. Harrison, Mrs. J. H McAfee,of this place, and Mr. T. L. Harrison of Mannsville, Okla. After the death of Mrs. Harrison, in April 1885, he was married the second time to Miss Sallie Hogan in the year of 1888, and to this union four children were born, all of whom are living, Mr. Eugene, Misses Maude and Lillian, and Mrs. C.A. Glisson all of this place. Mr. Harrison moved to Obion County, twenty-five years ago, having first settled near Obion and moved to Gibson County in the year 1904. In the death of Mr. Harrison [sic] takes another of our old soldies [sic], he having served two years and two months in the Civil War. In spite of his advanced age he enjoyed good health and done a man's work up until about three years ago when he had an attack of dropsy, of which he had never fully recovered. He professed faith in Christ and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1879, and lived a faithful Christian life until his health, [sic] a period of thirty seven years. As a husband Mr. Harrison was exceptionally devoted; as a father, firm but kind, as a neighbor, obliging, and as a Christian, constant and faithful. As a citizen, he was one of our oldest and most honored, honest and upright to the strictest standard, [sic] He spoke evil of no one and was a friend to all whom he knew. He is survived by eight children, twenty-two grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday morning at Walnut Grove Church by Rev. Roy Keathley. The Herald joins their many friends in extending to the bereaved family their deepest sympathy, and may his life stand before them as an example for them to follow. Additional Comments: Daniel Zeno Harison was my GGG grandfather. His daughter Amanda Catherine Harrison McAfee was my GG grandmother and her daughter Lena McAfee Grant my G grandmother.
