H. King of Petersburg, was fatally injured Friday morning at 10:00 p.m. when the telephone pole on which he was working broke off at the ground and fell crushing his body which was belted to the pole. The accident occurred at Spring Hill where a telephone crew of about ten men had been replacing wire. A member of the crew stated that King had released two wires but when he started the brackets the pole gave way. He was seen reaching to release his safety belt but was unsuccessful, fellow workers said. He was rushed to the hospital at Columbia, where he died about 11:00 a.m. Surviving besides his parents are his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Jones of Petersburg, with whom he made his home, three brothers, Jack, Billy, and Edgar, and two sisters, Alberta and Glendon King.
