R. Oldham, aged 86 years 5 months and 15 days, died at Petersburg of the infirmities of old age at the residence of his granddaughter, Mrs. Roy Allison, on Wednesday, September 2, 1925. Sixty-four years ago he enlisted under the Confederate banner and during those days which tried the fiber of one's soul, he was wounded seven times, and there never lived a Confederate who was more loyal to the cause. He was a member of the Christian Church. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. R. K. Morgan. Burial at Salem.
