All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tn/tnfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Hysong ladymari@cybertrails.com September 24, 2006, 1:44 pm Source: Lincoln Co Tn Will Book# 2 Pg 217 Written: June 9, 1848 In the name of God Amen I John Guthrie of the State of Tennessee and County of Lincoln being mindful of my mortality do this ninth day of June in the year of our Lord On Thousand eight hundred and forty Eight make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner following 1I desire to be decently and privately buried in the graveyard at Stephen M Dances without any funeral pomp and with as little expense as may be 2 Also I give and bequeath unto nancy Guthrie the wife of my son James C Guthrie the sum of one dollar infull of all claims against my estate 3 Also I give and bequeath unto Hugh R Hodge the husband of my daughter Sarah H the sum of one dollar infull of all claims against my Estate 4 Also I give and bequeath unto Thomas Baxter the husband of my daughter Susan M the sum of one dollar infull of all claims against my Estate. 5 Also I give and bequeath my daughter Lucinda A Guthrie my bedstead bed and furnature marked thus L and half dozen cup and saucers one half dozen of table plates one butter plate one half dozen of cup plates one looking glass marked thus L one rocking chair marked thus L 6 It is my will that my daughter Mary H Coleman pay out of her dividend of my Estate to my executors eighty dollars for mare and saddle Also that my daughter Sophia Walker pay out of her dividend of y estate seventy dollars to my Executors for her mare and saddle which two sums make the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars 7 It is my will that said one hundred and fifty dollars refunded by Mary & Sophia be divided equally between Reuben F Guthrie Simpson H Guthrie and Lucinda A Guthrie fifty dollars each. 8 My will is that my land and the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever of what nature kind or quality whatsoever the same may be and not herein before disposed of shall be sold on a credit at the discussion of James P Baxter whom I do hereby nominate and appoint Executor to this my last will and Testament and when the money is collected my debts and funeral expences paid out of the same to be equally divided between Reuben F Guthrie Patsey Willimas Elizabeth C Baxter Simpson H Guthrie Mary H Coleman Sophia Walker and Lucinda A Guthrie share & share alike 9 I do also hereby disannul and revoke all former wills made by me In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above written John Guthrie (seal) Signed sealed published & Declared by the said testator as and For his last will and Testament in our presence at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witneses thereto N.B the words when & paid was [inlirlined?] before assigned G M Dance JWH Dance Additional Comments: I have transcribed this will as closely as possible.
