Pass "Gap of the Ridge Church". Just pass the church, on the left turn onto dirt road. (There is a gate across the road that has a not trespassing sign attached. Turn left at dead end road. At fork in the road, bear right to the point where the road turns to come back; about 3 miles, then a sharp right turn. Cemetery is through the old gate and on the left of the uppermost knoll, among a group of pine trees.[The trees are not easily seen from the road.] The cemetery is to the left of a navigation marker pole. The graves are numbered according to the grave location map prepared by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority), Chattanooga, TN. 1. I. D. (Isaac Decatur) [WEAR]/born/Mar 11, 1817 died/Feb. 24, 1896/ At Rest 2. S.A.J. (Susannah A. J. SHELTON), wife of Isaac, Jul 27, 1833/Mar 3, 1875 [Susanna A. J. Shelton was the daughter of John SHELTON and Susanna BREAZEALE] [A visit by Denver and Dorothy Wear in 1993 found stones 1 & 2 broken from their bases.] 3. Miram A. WEAR/born/Mar 13, 1831/Jan. 21, 1858/26 yrs/10 mos/8 days 4. Elizabeth L./daughter/I.D. & M.A. WEAR/born/July 5, 1853/died/June 18/1861/. (Child was by first wife, Mariam A. BLANKENSHIP.) 5. Unidentifed grave. (Marker is small, so could be a child's.) 6. Marshall TIPTON/born Apr 17, 1828/died Jun 16, 1866. 7. Amelia E. McNUTT/born Jun 29, 1838/died Jan 4, 1859. (Maiden name was TIPTON, daughter of Louisanna WEAR and John Butler TIPTON. Married in 1856 to Hugh McNUTT of Maryville, TN. Had two daughters, Lucretia and Mary E. McNUTT.) 8. Unidentified grave. 9. M. L./infant WYLY (This is the infant of Mary E. WYLY and could have died at birth, as mother died young.) 10. Mary E. WYLY/ born Dec. 11, 1833/died/Jan 16, 1854/20 yrs/1 mo/13 days/. (Daughter of Louisiana (WEAR) and John Butler TIPTON, wife of John C. WYLY. Their child died young [see #9] Number 121, in The Descendants of East TN. By Ina Roberts and Olga Edwards. No further family members known.) 11. Martha L. TIPTON/daug of J.B. and L. (Wear) TIPTON/born Dec. 9, 1843/died Aug. 10, 1844. (Stone had to be removed from the soil, the death date was buried in the ground during our visit in 1993.) 12. (Double graves of twins) (a.) James D. and (b.) Margaret L/son and daughter of J.B. & L. TIPTON/born Feb. 18, 1840/died/July 23, 1840. (This stone was in fair condition on trip in 1993.) 13. Malvina/daughter of /J.B. and L. TIPTON/ born/Nov 22, 1836/died/ July 18, 1838. 14. Robert H./son of J. B. & L. TIPTON/ born/ Apr 23, 1829/ died July 26, 1829. [This stone is located on the ground on the far west corner of the cemetery, in some brush and broken from its base. Lying upside down, the inscription was in perfect reading condition.] 15. Unidentifed infant. 16. Charles M. DAWSON/born/died Mar 12, 1866.
