MADISON, TN - CEMETERIES - Cerro Gordo M.B.C. Cemetery ========================================================================= David Donahue, the creator of this file, declares it to be in the public domain. ========================================================================= CERRO GORDO MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY Madison County, Tennessee Cerro Gordo Cemetery is located at Cerro Gordo Missionary Baptist Church, on Cerro Gordo Road just east of Old Denmark Road. The cemetery is kept mown. A few trees around the edges of the cemetery came down in the May 2003 tornado. All but one had been removed from the cemetery by September 2003. For the most part the cemetery was not damaged by the storm. One marker was knocked over by a fallen tree and not reset and one marker which could not be found might have been removed accidentally during the cleanup on the southern side of the part of the cemetery east of the access drive. David Donahue recorded this cemetery on September 19, 2003 based on earlier work by Jonathan K. T. Smith. Mr. Smith's 1995 record for both parts of the cemetery appears in his Tombstone Inscriptions from Black Cemeteries in Madison County, Tennessee and a 2000 update appears in his Tombstone Inscriptions from Black Cemeteries in Madison County, Tennessee, Volume 2. These works are referred to collectively as Smith in the notes below. The work below also has been checked against a partial online record of the cemetery available from the TNGenWeb Archives. This record was made by Thelma Williams circa 1997 and is referred to as Williams in the notes below: Ms. Williams' added information about some of the people here is included in the notes below.
