The Bill of Sale is a replacement for one lost, which documented the sale of the same negro the previous summer [1832]. Wright warrants title to Ruthe, but does not guarantee her "soundness." This deed was noted in Madison County Court Minute Book 3, page 25. MADISON COUNTY, TN REGISTER OF DEEDS COUNTY COURT MINUTES BOOK 3, PAGE 25 2 MAY 1833 / REC. 4 MAY 1833 Francis Wright to John Curlin Bill of Sale for Slave Received of John Curlin four hundred dollars full pay for a negro woman aged about thirty three years named Ruthe, I warrant the title to said negro but do not guarantee her soundness. This bill of sale is given in lieu of one given last summer but which has been lost. May 2, 1833. Francis Wright (seal) State of Tennessee} Madison County } Personally appeared before me Thos. W. Gamewell Clerk of the County Court of said County Francis Wright bargainor to the foregoing Bill of Sale whity whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledges that he executed the within Bill Sale for the purposes therein contained.
