V. Curlin [James Valentine Curlin, son of William Hugh Curlin] petitions the Madison County Court for guardianship of the surviving children of his brother J. T. Curlin [John (Jesse) Thomas Curlin, oldest child of William Hugh Curlin], deceased [therefore J.T. Curlin must have died before 5 Mar 1899 and his wife must be deceased at this time also]. Guardianship is awarded contingent on the posting of a bond, which J. F. [J. Franklin Curlin, son of John V. Curlin & Anna M. Rawls Curlin?] and I. W. Curlin [Isaac Washington Curlin, son of William Hugh Curlin] stand as sureties. The children include Alice [daughter of J. T. Curlin & Jane E. Garrett Curlin, 1st marriage] , Ida, Ed, Eula and Thomas Curlin [children of J. T. Curlin & Dona V. Correlle Curlin, 2nd marriage]. These children have a 1/5 interest in land located in Madison County Civil District No. 4 valued at $150 and the guardian is to look after their interest in this. Curlin Guardian of Alice Curlin, Ida Curlin, Ed Curlin, Eula Curlin, & Thomas Curlin Then cause is heard upon petition, and it appearing to the Court that Alice Curlin, aged 19 years, Ida Curlin, aged 17 years, Ed Curlin, aged 9 or 10 years, Eula Curlin, aged 13 years & Thomas Curlin, aged 15 years, minor children of J. T. Curlin deceased are residents and citizens of Madison County, Tennessee and without a regular guardian, that said minors are seized of a one-fifth interest in a certain tract of land located in the 4th Civil District of Madison County, Tennessee, valued at about $150.00 and that it is necessary the said minors should have a guardian to look after said interest and petitioner is a proper person to become this guardian and prays that letters be issued to him and he be qualified as such. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the said J. V. Curlin be and he is hereby appointed guardian of said minors upon his giving bond in the sum of $300.00. Wherepon in open Court comes the said J. V. Curlin with B. F. Curlin and I. W. Curlin for sureties, who executed and acknowledge said bond, which is approved by the Court and the said J. V. Curlin is duly qualified and letters of guardianship ordered to issue to him. This Court then adjorned until Tuesday March the 7th 1899 T. C.
