A. Lewellyan 49th Ill. Volunteer Sept. 1st, 1862 1) one Bay Horse values two hundred dollars $200.00 By Col. Lee 7th Kansas About 10th June 1862 2) One pair Match Horses Value Four Hundred Dollar $400.00 By One mule value one Hundred and fifty dollars $150.00 By Fifteen Hundred pounds Bacon value ten cents per pound, re: $150.00 Hundred and Fifty Dollars Total Amt. $900.00 Page 3 that the prices charged are fair market value for the supplies at the time and place last mentioned, as your petitioner is informed and believe ; that said supplies were (6) Taken from petitioners plantation near Pinson, Madison County State of Tennessee. The Horse charged in item one, was taken as per receipt attached to application. To take evidence. The horses charged in item 2 was taken when the Federal Army first came to Jackson, Tennessee and by that portion known as The 7th Kansas and commanded by Col. Lee. Said command pumed petitioners residences from Corinth to Jackson. and took said horses for his use, as the claim states. Page 4 that this claim (7) has never been hereafter presented to any department of the government. Your petitioner further say s that he hereby appoints Gilbert Meyers Memphis, Tennessee as his true and lawful attorneys, to appear before the Claims Commission appointed under the act of Congress of March 3, 1871, or any Court, Department, or Bureau of the United States, and process this claim to final issue, with full power of substitution, hereby ratifying and confirming all said attorneys, or either of them, shall lawfully do in virtue hereof, and hereby annulling and revoking all other powers of attorneys in the premises. Your petitioner further states that he is now and was at the time the several items of his said claim accrued, as stated therein a citizen of the United States; that he remained a loyal adherent to the cause and Government of the United States, during the war of 1861, and also loyal before and at the time of the taking or furnishing of the property for which this claim is made. Attest. Wm Finnis Hartwell Temple (8) Hartwell Temple being duly sworn, deposes and says that said petitioner named in the forgoing petition, and who signed the same; that the matters therein stated are true of deponent s own knowledge, except to those matters which are stated on information and belief, and, as to those matters, he believes them to be true. And deponent further says that he did not voluntarily serve in the Confederate Army or Navy, either as an officer, soldier, or sailor, or in any other capacity, at any time during the late rebellion: that he never voluntarily furnished any stores, supplies, or any other material aid to said Confederate Army or Navy, or to the Confederate Government, or to any officer, department, or adherent to the same, in support there of, and that he never voluntarily accepted or exercised the functions of any office whatsoever under, or yielded voluntary support to the said Confederate Government.
