Letter/Bond of Citizens of Madison County - Release of Joseph Temple

					Jackson, Tennessee
 					August 3, 1862

Sir 

	Enclosed please find bond of some citizens of this county, the object 
being to effect the release of Joseph W. Temple, who was wounded and taken 
prisoner at Shiloh. This young man seems to have been a favorite in the 
neighborhood and clemency to him would have a very beneficial effect in the 
community. I visited and talked with him about the matter and find him well 
improved. He was shot in the head, face and will be disfigured for life. I 
have seen and conversed with his father and several neighbors and believe they 
truthfully represent the value of their property. I have found some Union men 
residing in same neighborhood who speak very highly of this young man. If it 
be possible to release Mr. Temple,I trust it may be done and will take it as a 
personal favor if you can forward this matter.
