He served as a lieutenant in North Carolina Troops and received for his service a grant of land which he located in the Tennessee country. He was taken prisoner at Charleston in 1780 when his brother, Robert, was also made prisoner. They were both original members of the N. C., Society of Cincinnati. Richard Fenner married Ann McKinney Geddy in 1788. She was born in 1770 and died in 1852. Richard Fenner died in Jackson, Madison County in 1828. Among their children were: Ann M., born 1790, who married Thomas Henderson; Dr. Robert who married Anne Jones: Matilda, who married Lewis Coorpender; and Mary, who married Julius Johnson.
