I, Stephen Lacy of the County of Madison and State of Tennessee, being of sound mind and memory but knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do this 27th day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and fortyseven make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: Item 1st - I give and bequeath to my son David Lacy the following land beginning at a sycamore, the southeast corner of the tract that I now live upon, two hundred and fiftysix poles to stake; thence west eight poles to a stake, the southwest corner of the tract of land that I now live upon; then east two hundred and fiftysix poles to the beginning containing one hundred and seventy one acres. Also twenty acres of the thirty of occupant land I bought of Robert M. Taylor, the south end of said land. Also one hundred three and one-eighth acres of land being the south end of Entry No. 3787 made in my name for two hundred three and one-eighth acres. To him and his heirs forever. Item 2nd - I give and bequeath to my son James Lacy the following described land. Beginning at a stake the northeast corner of the one above described, running north one hundred eleven and three and three-quarters poles to a small black oak corner with two black pointers; thence west one hundred and eighty poles to a stake in the east boundary line of a ten acre tract that I deeded to Griffith Lacy; thence south with said line nineteen and five-ninth poles to the corner; thence west seventysix poles to a blackjack the northwest corner of the tract that I am now living upon; thence south ninetythree and one eighth poles to a stake; thence east two hundred fiftysix poles to the beginning, containing one hundred and seventyone acres. Also ten acres of the north end of the occupant I bought of Robert M. Taylor, also one hundred acres of the north end of Entry No. 3737, to him and his heirs forever. Item 3rd - I give and bequeath to my son Griffith Lacy the following described land, beginning nineteen poles west of the northeast corner of the tract bequeathed above to James Lacy on a stake running north fortyfive degrees west sixtyfour poles to a _____ thence north twenty degrees east one hundred and fortythree poles to a stake; thence west one hundred and fiftyeight poles to a stake in the west boundary line of the Dodson tract; thence south with said line one hundred and eightyone poles to a stake; thence east one hundred and sixty and three ninth poles to the beginning, containing one hundred and sixtyfive acres, also another tract lying west of the one above described it being Entry No. 3786 made in my name, containing fortytwo 140/160 acres, to him and his heirs forever. Item 4th - I give and bequeath to my son Donald R. Lacy the following described land, beginning at the southeast corner of the Dodson tract; running west one hundred and forty poles to a post oak; thence north fiftynine and five ninths poles to a small black oak the northeast corner of the tract bequeathed to James Lacy; thence west nineteen poles to a stake; thence north fortyfive degrees west sixtyfour poles to a _____ thence north twenty degrees east one hundred and fifty poles to a stake; thence south thirtyone and a half degrees east two hundred and twenty poles; thence east fortyeight and one-half poles to a stake; thence south sixtythree poles to the beginning, containing one hundred and fifty acres. Also another piece, beginning on the east boundary line of the Dodson tract one hundred poles south of the northeast corner, running to said corner; thence west sixtyfour poles to a black oak corner two walnut and red oak pointers; thence south one hundred poles to a black oak corner, two black oak pointers; thence east one hundred poles to the beginning, containing forty acres, to him and his heirs forever. Item 5th - I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Lacy the following described land, beginning on the west boundary line of the Dodson tract one hundred and five poles south or the northwest corner, running to said corner; thence east hundred and fiftysix poles to a black oak corner tow walnut and red oak point thence south one hundred poles to a black oak corner, thow black oak pointers; thence west ninetysix poles to a stake thence south twenty degrees west five one quarter poles to a stake; thence west to the beginning, one hundred and fiftynine poles, containing one hundred sixtyfive acres, to him and his heirs forever. I have hereunto attached a plat of the most valuable part of my land showing the particular divisions. Item 6th - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Katherine, the following named negroes, man Anthony, women Abby and Winney, also two head of horses, the cows and calves, all my stock of hogs and sheep, one bed and furniture and as farming utensils as is necessary for her use and all my kitchen furniture, the above named negroes my wife is to have during her natural life of widowhood. Item 7th - I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Gladney in addition to negro women Pauline and her child Primas my negro girl Dinah and two hundred dollars to be made out of any property that I may die possessed of not particularly bequeathed, to her and her heirs forever. Item 8th - I give to my son David three cows and calves. Item 9th - I give to my son James three cows and calves and one bed and ____ Item 10th - I give to my grandson William Carothers two hundred dollars in addition to what I have given him to remain in the hands of my executors until he is twenty one years of age. Item 11th - My will is that all the negroes that I may die possessed of not particularly bequeathed be divided among my five sons Griffith, Donald R., Thomas, David, and James share and share alike, and if there should be any money left after paying my daughter Jane Gladney and my grandson William Carothers money I have willed to them of the sale of my perishable property that it be divided equally between my five sone named above and my will is that the property that I have willed to my wife Katherine be divided after her death or marriage amoung my five sons share and share alike by sale or division as may suit them best but if they should sell the negroes that they not be sold out of my family it be at the special request of the negroes. I do hereby nominate and appoint my sons Thomas and David Lacy my executors to this my last will and testament, in witness thereof I have set my hand and seal. Stephen Lacy Witness P.N.
