He enlisted March 17 1777 in Pittsylvania County, Va., under Capt. Thomas Dullard, Col. Morgan and others. He says that he marched through the wilderness 600 miles across the Mississippi to Illinois town and back to Virginia. He was honorably discharged after two years service, but while moving down the River the boat sank and all his papers were lost. He moved to Marion County, Tenn.
