He enlisted under Colonel Benjamin Few and Captain James Bowen. He enlisted again under Colonel Elijah Clarke and was in the battle of King's Mountain. He moved from Tennessee to Jackson County. Alabama, by 1835, to reside with his son Joseph R. McCormick, who had a wife and two children. The soldier had another son whose name is not given in his application.
