ALEXANDER BRYANT, of Marshall County, Tenn., is a son of John F. and Sarah
(Amis) Bryant, and was born in Granville County, N.C., December 14, 1818. His
parents were also born in North Carolina, and were married in that State, and
became the parents of ten children. The father was a well-to-do farmer, and
lived in his native State until 1837, and then moved to Tennessee, and located
in Marshall County, and there died in 1857. He was a Democrat and for several
years held the position of magistrate. The mother died in 1870. Alexander's
early school advantages were very limited, never having attended school more
than twelve months. After attaining manhood he began farming and has followed
that calling through life. In 1842 he wedded Maria Wilkes, by whom he had
eleven children. Both he and Mrs. Wilkes are members of the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bryant is a Democrat and as a farmer has met with
well deserved success. He has been a resident of Marshall County for twenty-
seven years, and has the confidence and respect of all who know him.
