The State of Tennessee, Marshall County. At a County Court begun and held for the County of Marshall at the Court house in the Town of Lewisburg the place appointed by the law for holding the severak Courts in said County on the first Monday in June the same being the first day of the month in the year of our Lord 1840. Present John FIELD Burgess HARDEN and Ephraim HUNTER, Gentlemen Justices of the peace, proclamation &C. The following proceedings were had. On motion it is ordered by the Court that A. C. GLENN be appointed overseer of the Lewisburg road in the directio n of Fayetteville commenceing at Martin DAVIS’s and terminateing at the top of the Elk ridge and that he have the following habds to wit, P. G. W. GOODWIN, W. RAMSEY, Jacob FOWLER Doctor HAYWOODS hands, E. BRAY, Jas. E. SAMSON, H. B. WELCH, J. CARROLL, A. GRAHAM, E. RAMBO’s hands, W. RAMBO Jr. and Richard DAUGHARTY &C. Issued. Martin W. OAKLEY clerk of this Court presented to this Court an account of a settlement made by him with John HAWKINS Jr. Guardian of the minor heirs of Wm. B. BUCHANNAN decd for the year ending the 20th day of May 1840 which report being seen and by the Court understood was in all things confirmed and ordered to be recorded. Martin W. OAKLEY clerk of this Court presented to this Court an account of a settlement made by him with Elizabeth CANNON guardian of the minor heirs of Thompson CANNON decd for the year ending the 30th day of April 1840 which report being seen and by the Court understood was in all things confirmed and ordered to be recorded. Martin W. OAKLEY clerk of this Court presented to this Court an account of a settlement made by him with James PATTERSON Esqr. one of the Executors of Noah HEDLEY Dec which report being seen and by the Court understood was in all things understood was in all things confirmed and ordered to be recorded. (386) June term 1840 It appearing to the Court that Eldridge P. Franklock, Albert G. William B. and George M. COOPER are orphans & minors and now reside in the County of Marshall who have no guardian known to the Court, and the said Eldridge B & Franklock now appearing in open Court and being more than fourteen years of age selects and the Court hereby appointed Susan P. & Franklock and the Court also hereby appointes the said Susan COOPER minors as aforesaid and the said Susan COOPER in the sum of Three thousand dollars for bond with B. COWDEN and H. N. COWDEN her securities for her guardianship and the same is accepted by the Court. On motion it is ordered by the Court that Hezekiah CHUNN be appointed overseer of the road commenceing at Lewisburg and terminateing at the west end of John W. RECORDS Lane and that he have the hands who worked under the former over seer. Issued. Aaron BOYD and J. F. WARREN Ad, of S. DUNNEGAN dec. appeared in Court and returned an account of sales of the negroes belonging to said Estate which was ordered to be recorded. James F. WARREN administrator of the estate of Mack HARRIS decd appearedin Court and returned an account of sales of the negroes of said estate which was ordered to be recorded. The last will and testament of Charles R. NEIL decd was this day presented in open Court by Marcus D. WILSON Executor thereto and on motion the Executor of said will was duly proven by the oath of William NEIL and John C. NEIL subscribing witnesses thereto, and on motion it is ordered that Letters testamentary Issue to the said WILSON who accordingly Executed his bond in the sum of Eight thousand dollars with William NEIL and John C. NEIL his security which was accepted by the Court he taking the oath prescribed by law. On motion it is ordered by the court that Elisha A. PATTON be appointed overseer of the road leading from Lewisburg to Nashville commenceing at the south and of Joseph H. BRITTIAN’s Lane terminateing at the Williamson County Line and that he have the hands in the following bounds, to wit Beginning at Michael ROBINSON’s thence to Rebeca BOYD’s thence to Elizabeth RIGG’s thence to Alexander RAY then to R. J. DODSON thence to the beginning including all the hands in said bounds. Issued. (387) June term 1840. And there being no more business before the Court adjourned untill Court in Course. F. W.
