J. Rushton, E. W. Gamble, R. Holding, L. W. Black, J. M. Mayes, Lucius Frierson. Work was promptly commenced for the manufacture of ice, and the product has proven to be a great convenience to Columbia citizens. Up to 1895 a three-ton plant was sufficient. At that date J. C. Wooten, E. W. Gamble, and L. Frierson bought up the stock, moved the plant from Burns' to White's spring, and installed a 15-ton machine. In 1900 Chaffin Bros, purchased Mr. Wooten's interest, and a 10-ton machine was added, making the daily capacity now 27 tons of excellent quality ice. The plant is at the foot of Frierson St., and in its season gives employment to about a dozen men. E. W. Gamble, manager, has resided in Columbia since 1867, and was formerly in the wholesale grocery trade. Office, No. 8 West Eighth St. Additional Comments: From: CENTURY REVIEW 1805 - 1905 MAURY COUNTY, TENNESSEE A Condensation of the Most Important Events of the Past One Hundred Years, and Descriptive Sketches of the Cities and Villages File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/tn/maury/history/1906/centuryr/columbia23gms.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/tnfiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
