K. Polk in the twenties. It was here that he entertained Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren in the campaign of 1844. In 1848 he sold the property to Evan Young, who presented it to his daughter, Mrs. Dr. A. L. Pillow. She died in 1873; and Dr. Pillow died in July, 1904, aged eighty-five years. Their son, Eugene Pillow, holds the homestead, and treasures it for having a room in which three Presidents of the United States have slept.
