The 48th (Voorhies') Regiment Tennessee Infantry was organ- ized December 18, 1861. Most of the regiment was captured at Fort Donelson, Tenn., February 16, 1862; released at Vicksburg, Miss., September 23, 1862, and immediately re-organized; and de- clared exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Va., November 10, 1862. The portion that escaped capture formed a part of the 48th (Nixon's) Regiment Tennessee Infantry from April, 1862, until December 1, 1862, when they were returned to their original command. The remainder of the 48th (Nixon's) Regiment Tennessee Infantry was transferred to this regiment by S.F.O. No. 46, Hdqrs. Army of Tennessee, dated July 14, 1864.
