He was then 68 years of age. He entered the service in what was then Camden and is now Sumpter District, S. C., under Captain Robert McCottery. He stated that in the fall of 1780 he joined Captain John Armstrong's company under Francis Marion. He stated that in the spring} of 1782 he joined the regular corps of General Marion and Maj. John Bamble and that he was discharged in December, 1782, near Monk's Corner about 32 miles from Charleston. He stated that he was born in Camden District, now Sumpter District, April 6, 1764 and that in 1805 he moved to Tennessee and in 1809 settled in Maury County, Tennessee. His declaration was attested by Samuel Mayers, William James Frierson and Duncan Crown, clergyman.
