He was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia, in 1759. He enlisted in Captain Joseph Wynn's company, Virginia troops, and was appointed second lieutenant. He was in the battle of Stone River. He married, in South Carolina, Frances Hernden but her application for a pension after his death was not allowed as she could not prove the marriage. Among their children were Nathaniel Green McKie, who married Mary Rogers; and B. F. McKie, born 1811, died 1852, who married twice, his second wife being Sally Horton. Daniel McKie, the revolutionary soldier, died in Maury County, Tennessee in 1839. Additional Comments: From: SOME TENNESSEE HEROES OF THE REVOLUTION Compiled From Pension Statements PAMPHLET NO.
