W.C.WHITTHORNE,Esq.,at the request of many of his Democratic friends, has consented to be a candidate. COL.POWHATAN GORDON,who was nominated by a Temperance Convention, held at the Court House in this place on last Monday night, has declined the Nomination. AGNES ANDERSON--who killed a man named TAYLOR,her paramour,at New Orleans some months ago,has been tried and acquited. Some of the New Orleans papers comdemn the verdict of the Jury in strong terms. WE HAVE SAID--on more than one occasion, that J.A.EDWARDS,Boot and Shoemaker,East side of the Square, was a hard-working,industrious and good mechanic, but we wish now to say also that he is one of the cleverest fellows we know of.For the benefit of all such we would state that on last Wednesday morning we stepped into his house for the purpose of having some work done, when he politely asked us to take a seat, producing a pair of superior Patent-leather Shoes, tried them on us and then begged we would accept them as a present, which of course we could not decline.EDWARDS is bound to succeed in business, for we never knew a man who was liberal to a poor printer ever to lose by it.
